The Network Administrator's responsibility is to develop, implement and maintain the organizations in- house data network infrastructure. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining and supporting all network hardware and software.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES (in descending order of importance)

Acquisition and Deployment

  1. Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  1. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  2. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network equipment procurement and development efforts.

Operational Management

  1. Administer add, move, and change requests from end users as well as new line installationsas as required.
  2. Perform internal system backups and conduct testing and development of disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions.
  3. Manage servers (virtual and physical), including e-mail, print and application servers and their associated operating systems and software.
  4. Manage and maintain all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches and printers.
  5. Maintain network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  6. Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  7. Oversee security solutions hardware and software including anti-virus and encryption solutions.
  8. Provide assistance to various departments when end-user hardwaresoftware problems requireadvanced knowledge (level 2 support).
  9. Monitors the daily server tape and storage area network backup at all CU facilities. Maintains the tape rotation schedule and logs of backups.



  1. College diploma or university degree in a related field and/or 3-5 years equivalent work experience.
  2. Any combination of Microsoft certifications: MCP, MCSE, MCSA, MCITP, MCTS and or Cisco: CCVP or CCNA.


  1. In depth technical knowledge of Cisco & Microsoft Windows operating systems.
  2. Direct hands-on hardware & software troubleshooting experience.
  3. Working technical knowledge of Microsoft server and workstation operating systems including Windows Server 200820012 & Windows 7
  4. Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Office and other common user productivity software.

Work Conditions

  1. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, power tools, and to handle other communications/computer components.
  1. Lifting and transporting of moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  2. On-call availability for emergency weekend support.
